The Ridge Golf & Gardens
About
The rolling countryside occupied by The Ridge Golf & Gardens (formerly known as Buck Ridge Golf Course) provides an ideal landscape for a round of golf. The nearby farmhouses add to the course's rustic appeal. The layout closely follows the natural contours of the land and trees, ponds, and landscaping were tactfully added to blend seamlessly with the natural terrain. There are a total of five ponds, which come into play on eight holes. A number of bunkers are strategically placed around the large greens and there are also rough areas to watch out for. Although the golf course is relatively young, the skillful use of the mature trees makes it seem as though it has been around much longer. The eighth hole, the layout's longest par 3, is one of the toughest. It plays directly over water to the right side of the green. Before playing The Ridge Golf & Gardens, golfers can warm up on the large practice green.

a fun place to play
I used to play here somewhat regularly, but I hadn't been back in several years and not since the ownership had changed a few years ago. I had heard that the course had been improved so I was looking forward to trying it again. I remembered it as an affordable place to play--with a fairly forgiving layout, a handful of memorable holes and a few intimidating shots. The conditioning was always the weak point--it was a bit crusty, dry and firm.
The course is still affordable and it remains forgiving because most of the holes are in the open without lateral hazards and the rough is very playable. The fairways remain hard, firm and fast--not lush, but not dried out, either. And there is a decent amount of elevation change here for a course in this part of Ohio. Nothing dramatic, but several holes play gradually uphill or downhill and that makes things interesting. And water comes into play often enough to keep your attention but not so much as to wear you out.
But, what really impressed me this time around was the greens. I don't know if the new owners have reworked some of them, but they really make this course. They were all in great condition and rolling fast and true. Several, if not most, of the greens have mounds and slopes that really test your short game. On the day we played a lot of the pins were tucked near the edge of the green and a few were on small tiers. It looks like there are a lot of challenging pin placements that will make this a fun place to revisit.
For me, the quality of the greens plays a huge factor in my overall assessment of a golf course and, for that reason alone, I will want to come back here to play again.
What an improvement!
We'd played this course 2 years ago when it was under another name. At that time the course was OK but the course conditions were not. Along with the name change, the improvement in course condition is incredible. The fairways and rough are excellent and the greens are outstanding.
I love the layout!
Had a sunny 50 degree in November so I headed out to my favorite course.
I love the doglegs and some fairways are treelined. The new owners are doing a fantastic job of restoring this gem.
Staff is awesome.
Restoration work.
The new owners are doing an awesome job with the course restorations. Staff is super friendly and the food is great. The only thing lacking is the absence of a driving range. I will definitely be back to play again.
Forgotten Gem and Smart People
This course had fallen into disrepair. The new owners and superintendent have performed a resurrection. The course plays really well. In its current format it is pretty open. Traps have real sand and are very playable. a few issues being worked on by have very little impact on play. Fantastic club house, great service, year round activities. Really pleased and impressed with what they are doing and enjoy every round I have played.
First time playing here. Played with a friend and our teenage sons. Was a great layout and in great shape given the amount of rain lately. Fun course to play and the pace was good. Staff is very friendly and inviting. Will be back again.
Getting Better Every Round
Since the new team took over this course it has improved with each season and seemingly with each round. It is fun and has a nice set of challenges to keep me sharp. Smart people who are leveraging their facilities well with plans still unfolding. Really excited for them and really enjoying my experiences there.
Condition very good
Considering the rains, the course was in great condition. Greens, fairways, and rough all had been mowed. New owners have made great strides in getting course back in shape and making it a fun course to play. Reccomend it for mid to high handicappers, seniors, and family. An open links style course without the high rough or grass areas to slow down pace of play. Few trees so wind does come into play on most holes.
Very fun course
Loved this course it was in great shape and great priced.the layout was very fun and challenging I will Definitely be back
Barbara & Bruce Maryville
My wife and I travel in our motorhome and play golf as much as we can in different states and cities. We were camping in Delaware Ohio and the weather was perfect the day we played golf at The Ridge Golf and Gardens, Maryville Ohio. The course was under new ownership (reason for the condition) and for an Ohio course it was in average condition. The green were very slow and needed some time to come back due to lack of watering. What few sand traps there were they were in average shape? Many of the sand traps were full of grass and weeds, no sand. The staff was helpful and the club house and restaurant were newly remodeled. The course is mostly flat with a couple holes with both left and right dog legs. I would recommend playing this course for the value if you are in the Maryville Ohio area, easy course and a great Hot Deal value.
Steadily Improving
I am so glad the new owners have started taking care of this course. I have been playing here for a few years but stopped early last season when the conditions went downhill. Greens are definitely improving. Fairways are very reasonable. It looks like they are starting to work on the sand traps too! I just hope this course continues to get the traffic it needs to stay open. Fun/challenging layout.
Friendliest staff
Fun course, amazing staff. Greens still need some work but improving. I would like to have some real sand in the traps. Accuracy over distance is the key for a low score here. New carts and a freshly landscaped parking lot are a nice touch!
No drinking water on course
Some of the greens were in need of repair no sand in bunkers fairways were a bit thin but overall course was decent worth the twenty bucks
The sand traps all had grass in them and the heather had all been mowed down. It felt like I was playing in a farmers field except for the water challenges.
Still a work in progress
To be fair, one can tell effort is being put into the course but it is going to take more time. New Yamaha carts and remodelled club house are a step in the right direction but most of the greens are in pretty bad shape with bare soil exposed making a putt roll like it's on the surface of the moon. If the new owner can sustain maintenance, it will be a gem. Maybe take out some fairway bunkers to focus on some greenside bunkers. Do what you can to revive the course because it's a beautiful track.
Much Improved
Played this morning and the course is in good shape and getting better every time we play. The fairways are in great shape and the greens are in the best shape they have been in for years. Well worth the cost and the staff are very friendly and helpful. We will be back.
Great Course for the money
Great staff looks like they are doing a lot of work right now but can tell it will be a great course by the end of this season.
Horrible Course Conditions
Greens were awful. Dead areas and very bumpy. Rough was long and over grown with clover. Made finding your golf ball very difficult. None of the traps had any sand.
Not worth the money at all.
Thank you for your review and your visit to The Ridge. We ask you to keep in mind, the course was in receivership for the last 3 years. That led to multiple years of very minimal water, fertilizer and upkeep on the entire course. Under the new ownership, we are making strides daily to improve the overall play of the course.
This is a major undertaking of fixing irrigation, equipment updates, reseeding, transplanting, and most importantly green repair.
We invite you to return, but request you allow some time for the planned updates to occur. We promise you will see constant improvements month by month.
