Cooks Creek Golf Club
About
Cooks Creek Golf Club (previously known as Raintree South Golf Club) is bordered by Little Walnut Creek on one side and the Scioto River on the other, providing a scenic setting that is ideal for a round of golf. The course is a certified Audubon Sanctuary and there is also a Blue Herron rookery on site. Opened in 1993, the golf course is relatively young but it has already established a reputation for being one of central Ohio's best public courses. Local architects Michael Hurzdan and Dana Fry designed the course with the assistance of John Cook. Cooks Creek has two completely unique nines that offer two different sets of challenges. The diverse layout requires careful strategy and it will also test your shot-making abilities. With two bodies of water serving as neighbors, water definitely plays a role on the golf course.

Great Layout
I understand the weather has taken its toll on the course, but there is such a disparity between holes not that far from each other. A couple holes were very wet while others were very dry and there were bare or dead grass quite often in the fairway. Then most of the greens had holes in them or completely no grass or sand on the green. There were just a handful of tee markers on the course, so we had to guess which were the right teeing grounds. It's a great layout and the people working there couldn't be nicer. But it could be so much better, and little things mean a lot, signage that is more permanent than laminated signs. Driving range could have yardage markers at least to warm up to instead of an empty field. Overall, probably a 3/5. Expectations were probably too high for a top 20 Ohio public course
Hello, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are sorry to see that your overall experience was anything short of 5 stars, but we hope you'll give us another try in the near future.
Disappointed
Having played CC in ten years
Was looking forward to the old layout that I remembered where you had to use long irons off the tee for a couple of par 4 holes
Several greens where in horrible shape
A few fairways had hardly any grass in the fairway or around the greens
0 sand in any bunker and had to play unplayable areas on a few holes

Long Course, So-So Condition
Cooks Creek was a fun but long course. It was the hottest day of the year so far, so it was very dry. Some burnt spots. Greens were very firm, yet didn’t roll great. Would not recommend walking this course. Extremely hilly and plays just over 7,000 yards from the tips. Would play again for similar price (~$20 for 18 + cart).
Thank you for visiting us at Cooks Creek Golf Club. We appreciate your 4-star rating and review. We hope you join us for another round soon.
Great Layout/Great Value
I love playing here, and have played a few times this year already. I live in Athens and my home course the OU golf course is closed due to Covid-19. It takes me over an hour to get here (or any other worthy golf course) and it's well worth it.
There are a few condition issues that seem to be improving as the grass is growing very well. Mostly this is not in areas that affect play. The bunkers have been unkempt so our group decided to play the bunkers as an option, play it in the bunker or drop behind it. We also had 2 times where someone was on a patch of dirt in the collar and it was going to affect the shot, so we just let them move an inch right or left.
Those condition issues do not come close to tarnishing one of the nicest public course layouts around. There are no weak holes here and they all play differently.
We also enjoyed continuous Blue Heron fly bys all day.
I will definitely be back.

grubby greens
the course was dried out, but still cart path only on 2 holes and 90 degree otherwise. Not sure why. It was lovely to play without anyone around.

Course should not be open
I played in a foursome today with three of us having played at this course many times in the past. I was embarrassed for the person who had never played here after I talked it up. I understood that due to the water issues, we could only play 9 of the 18 holes, twice. The tees were unkept and many without markers, weeds growing on them; the fairways were unmowed and full of weeds; the rough was never attended to and was over grown with high grass and weeds; the greens were uneven, leaf strewn and hard to gauge a straight putt. I will not be going back. $10 would have been a high price as I drove 45 minutes to golf here.

Pretty bad
I used to really enjoy playing this course even though I had to drive 45 minutes to get there. I played there in 2018, really bad shape. Went again in 2019, really bad. Very disappointing. Didn’t go last year in 2020 due to all the reviews I read showing how bad the course was. I may never go back. Shame it’s gotten as bad as it is. The Cooks need to get it back to its old glory or take there name off it. I know I wouldn’t want my name associated with a course that’s gotten this bad.
Disappointing
I was really disappointed in the course after hearing a lot of good things about it. It's unfortunate because I think with the layout and setting of the course, it could be a fantastic track. But it does need some serious TLC. The bunkers are far gone and several of the greens have some pretty bad spots on them.

what a waste
What a shame the people that bought this course are letting it go to a total disgrace. Actually had a little grass in the fairways (not very good) greens were ok but getting worse, the front 9 had not been cut all year there’s weeds between tee boxes 3 feet high. The bunkers well what used to be bunkers have not been touched in who knows how long and have bottles n beer cans in them. Course used to be good and is on a nice piece of property but it is pretty far gone and will take way more money then these owners have or are willing to spend. Don’t waste your time or money.

So much Potential
I was excited to play this course after I saw pictures on their website and their video. However as soon as you pull in you know it was too good to be true. Weeds everywhere, beer bottles in the “sand traps” if you want to call them that because there was no sand, and it was over all in terrible shape. Granted the front I guess flooded a few weeks back but that is no excuse for the holes that didn’t flood. The layout is beautiful and has so much potential but I will not be going back unless they clean the place up.

Ugh
Have loved this course for so many years. Need to stay away until it is fixed. It’s in really bad shape. Was not maintained last year and now in the roughest shape I have ever seen. Optimistic as people were working on it. I would play over and over again if gets back to where it was a couple years ago. Long way to go. Price does match the quality but not sure if worth playing at all right now

1-Star Course 5-Star Value
Played here once before years ago and loved the layout, but clearly the money isn’t there anymore or it isn’t being applied. Fairways are dead, nothing in the bunkers, tees are a joke. The greens rolled nice, but I might only think that because they weren’t aerated. Early in the year, paid $10, was the first tee time at noon. Great value, and such a shame, it’s a beautiful course if kept!

Course was a mess greens were messed up have dirt half grass the fairways were a mine field of dirt spots and crab grass it’s the worst I’ve ever seen the excuse is they just killed a lot of grass but shouldn’t even be open with a course that looks like that the steps up to the tee boxes were terrible fell through one of them looks like it’s wood from 1960s not happy about it and I never leave a review

Save your money.
I'm at a loss for words. It's been a number of years since I played here and this will be the last. I don't know how they can charge money with a straight face. I can't remember when I played a course in this bad of condition. I payed $35 and I wouldn't play again if it was free. The only thing positive I can say is my cart didn't break down.
Thank you for reviewing the course. Let us first start by apologizing for the poor experience you had during your visit. The current condition is by no means the standard we strive to achieve, and we are working towards getting things up to par. Your feedback about the price of our course is important to us. We always want to make sure we are offering golfers a competitive price for their round. It is our goal to give visitors the best chance to get out and play more. Thank you for playing Cooks Creek Golf Club. We hope to see you again soon.
DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!
The lady working in the clubhouse was nice. She explained that the fairways were being reseeded but was still in good shape to play. We rolled up on the first tee box and it was nothing but burnt grass and dirt but mainly dirt. That was the theme for every tee box. Also, finding your way around the course was also quite difficult. The cart paths were like atv paths you find in the woods. Now let’s move on to the fairways. There was little to no grass. It was equlaivant to playing in a cow pasture. Don’t think I have ever seen so much crab grass in my life. The rough was better to play out of than the fairway. The greens were half dirt and half grass. The actual grass was tore up and burnt. The fringe was made up of weeds. Also, there were several trash cans on the course that were overflowed, with trash laying everywhere. The course has potential but it looks like it hasn’t been maintained in several years. My firends and I would and left and asked for our money back but we met half way as we all live in different places. More suggestion if your are thinking about playing here, set your money on fire it will more fun.
