Denison Golf Club at Granville
About
Designed by Donald Ross in 1924, Denison Golf Club at Granville has a classic design that deftly utilizes the natural landscape of rolling hills covered with forests. The layout is fair and not overly challenging, providing an enjoyable round for players of all skill levels. The elevated, undulating greens and dramatic elevation changes are the course's trademarks. There are also strategically placed bunkers throughout that present further challenges. The golf course finishes with its signature hole, a par 4 that is easily the most dramatic of any on the layout. The hole is known for the 125-foot drop from the tee to the fairway, after which a second shot to a small, two-tiered green is required. In addition to the golf course, Denison offers extensive practice facilities including a driving range, short game area, and putting green.

The Good, The Bad and the Beautiful
First the Good: Arrived a day before we were to play, and asked if we could take a cart and drive the course, they were very gracious in allowing our request. This tour of each hole allowed us not only to see the layout of holes but also to know how to play each hole. The tees were well grassed, fairways plush, rough fair, and greens looked good as well. In playing the course the next day we found the greens held shots well and putted true. Course has a nice mixture of water and sand hazards and several tee locations offering many challenging holes, playing long from the back tees. The Bad: Last year we made a special trip from Cincinnati to play this course only to find out the course was closed for aerating, however there was no mention of that on their website. This year we called ahead and was given an Oct 6th date for aeration to begin. We were shocked to find that during our round on Oct 2nd the process had begun on some of the holes. If you are advising when work is to be done then please stick to your schedule. This fact alone caused me to not rate this course as high as it should be. Finally The Beautiful: Course is very scenic with lots of wildlife observed among the Welsh hills and valleys. The 18th tee is elevated and offers a spectacular scenic view of a very large area showing some of the famous landmark buildings in this area. This is a Donald Ross designed course, however holes 15 thru 17 have been redesigned to allow upscale housing. These holes are very different then all others as there are extremely steep inclined peaks and valleys with twists and turns on the layout. While these are not Ross designed they still are very interesting holes and were very enjoyable and somewhat difficult to play. Overall we enjoyed the experience and with a little better course management could say it is a bucket list course to play.
Painfully Slow
This is my first "review" of a course but this was so bad I felt I needed to say something. Nearly 5 hours for a 3some on a Friday afternoon, at one point had 4 Groups on the same hole and saw a 6-some being allowed to play together. If you are going to charge $40+ per round, HIRE A RANGER.
Excellent little Donald Ross course
Great condition, greens are very fast and very challenging. Fun course to play. Nice layout, mix of long and short holes, not overly difficult. Nice staff.
Nice Track
Course was in good shape and very scenic. Lot of trees which come into play. I liked the par 4 dog legs which made it more challenging. Overall a very nice track. I would definitely it again.
Great Course near Columbus, OH
Beautifully designed course with perfect conditions - greens pristine, fairways and tee boxes lush. Some beautiful downhill views of fairways and moderate uphill shots to greens. Could not ask any more for value and conditions! Saw deer while out there and was able to take photo.
Scenic and challenging
Beautiful course, nice design but the small and fast greens will test you. Not very long from the whites but ball placement wins out over length on a number of holes. Number 18 is fantastic and makes for a memorable finishing hole.
great track
Bad choice of day - nearly constant rain, but the course was in very good condition and a pleasure in spite of the weather. A hidden gem in central Ohio
Great course with great views
Always love playing Granville. great course, perfect condition, beautiful scenery, the weather cooperated, friendly staff, etc. Can't ask for it to be any better, except maybe a better short game for me.
Great great great
This was one of the best course I've played on in Ohio..
Granville Golf Course
This course is excellent. a few challenging holes but course played well was in terrific shape. The staff was the greatest. would recommend to anyone who wants a great course
Calling Mr. Ranger......
I played this course for the first time in five years and it did not disappoint. Classic courses like this are hard to find. The fairways and greens were in great shape, with green speed just as I remember - mostly fast with a commitment to line and pace critical. Many of the green side bunkers seem in need of repair and fresh load of true sand. Unfortunately, my golf experience was undermined by the slowest foursome I have ever witnessed. Multiple practice swings on the tees and fairways, a lack of understanding of ready golf and hovering over putts as if the Masters were on the line. A ranger should have been on the course to get this foursome in line.
Great course - must play
Granville was in great condition, greens were receptive and the fairways were really well cared for. Very little dead grass or problems - bunkers were smooth and ready for play. Just a great course and the price I got through GolfNow was amazing.
Great Value
Played this course with a Hot Deal for $25 and was beyond pleased. Course is normally around $50.
Just as nice as remembered
Course in nice condition. Rough was high greens
were quick. Few sprinkles on us but no matter.
Only disappointment was not being able to have
a cold one after the round because it was Sunday.
Love Granville
Haven't played here for awhile, but I have always loved the course. Not fond of the new holes, but the Donald Ross design is great.
Wow what a course!!
I've heard great things about this place from friends but was even more blown away when I got there. Plenty of elevated tee shots and great views all around the course.
Great Course
What a wonderful course with many elevation changes. Challenging, but not too difficult. The 18th hole is beautiful at the tee box overlooking Granville. I will definitely be playing here again.
This course is a must play
Granville Golf Course is in great condition right now. The greens are quick, smooth and true and the course setting is incredible. What a treasure for the public to be able to play this classic Donald Ross course. If you play it once you'll go back often.
Great course, not necessarily worth the drive
Course is gorgeous. Pace was rough and ranger didn't keep groups ahead in pace (multiple balls, mulligans, talking). Would like to play again when pace lines up with expectations.
Awesome Track
Great course with a bit of difficulty! I would golf over and over!
My favorite course in Central Ohio. A must play if you're in the area. The course is always in great shape, the greens are usually fast and the scenery is fantastic. Love the course. Love the town. The combination makes for a great day of golf.
