Vernon View Golf Course
About
Vernon View Golf Course (formerly known as Hiawatha Golf Course) is a public, 18-hole course located in Mount Vernon. The course is set amongst the rolling hills of Knox County, surrounded by acres of lush countryside. Like many other courses in central Ohio, this course was designed by local architect Jack Kidwell although it has undergone several changes in its design since opening in 1962. Creeks meander through the tall stands of trees that have matured nicely since their original planting during the construction of the golf course. The landscape is also dotted with several lakes, which come into play on a number of holes. There is also the occasional bunker to watch out for. Vernon View Golf Course has been owned and operated by the same family since it opened, providing a warm and friendly atmosphere that is perfect for outings and tournaments.

Improved Course
Played this course last year. It was not in the greatest shape. The new owners have made many improvements to the course. If they continue to make additional improvements,; it will be a great course to play. Grass in the Fairways was too long, tee boxes were in better shape, greens were nice. I would recommend this course. Hopefully by next year it will be in great shape. Staff was very friendly and accommodating.
Nice layout and great price!
I really like this course! The layout has challenging and scenic elevation changes. There aren't tons of hazards but it has a links golf feel with some.of the high grass areas that can eat off target shots.
On this particular day it was a little wet and the grounds crew were cutting the grass so lots of clippings, but overall the pace, price and conditions were good!
Course is more than worth the money to olay
I have played this course a few times due to the great price, have seen it get better and better every time. It’s very open and fair course, some hazards make the T shots difficult if you’re long off the box. Greens are in very good shape and are rolling smooth and fast! Must go to course at this rate
First visit but definitely not the last
I was new to this course but had to give it a try after playing the owners indoor facility during the offseason and being extremely impressed with it. The course did not disappoint. It’s an extremely fun open layout with lots of terrain changes and was in very good condition. Well worth the drive from Columbus.
Bob the new owner has done a great job on the course gets better everytime I play it. Fun course great greens and good price!
Nice condition
The greens and fairways were in great condition. The overall character of the course is just OK. Will play again.
Enjoyable - looking forward to the future.
Played this course for the first time on Fathers day. We enjoyed the course but couldn't give it 5 stars due to the work in progress. You can tell the new owners are putting a lot of time and improvements in and it will be exciting to see these take shape over the next year.
My only negative was the thick tall rough. Don't go out of bounds or miss the fairway or you'll be struggling to get out if you can find your ball. Other than that I enjoyed my afternoon. I'll definitely be back.
Improving course
First time i been there and was in good condition. Friend i was with said its significantly nicer then he has seen it previously
Very nice course
We had never played the course and found it to be in great shape. The greens were immaculate. The indoor facilities were very nice. The carts were in great shape. If you are able to hit the ball straight you will enjoy your score as the fairways are very wide open.
Another Solid Kidwell Course
Course conditions were iffy, fairways/ tee boxes poor and greens good. The course uses outter portions of property well to generate elevation changes. Course has aggressively abandoned all bunkers and several back tees.
The layout is very good and the course has fun Kidwell greens.
Either too wet or too dry
Hiawatha is a good course if you are a beginner, but if you have played nicer courses this will seem harder than those nicer courses. When it rains, puddles are everywhere and greens are super slow and you chunk almost every shot. When it doesn't rain the fairways do have good roll, but it is impossible to get under the ball, I had 3 holes with 3 chips because you can't get under the ball. The crouch family that owns the course is very nice and the food in the clubhouse is pretty good. If you are just looking for a good time, that can be had here.
Great review! Note: You're not supposed to "get under the ball". You're supposed to strike ball-first, then take the divot forward of the ball.
