Riviera Golf Club stretches over a windswept landscape that is wide open. The course is somewhat lengthy but the terrain is mostly flat, which makes it more manageable. Although the fairways are rather generously sized, they still require a fair amount of accuracy thanks to strategically placed bunkers. The large, fast greens are also heavily guarded by sand traps. Water hazards come into play on half of the holes. The history of the golf course dates back to the late 1950s but it did not move to its current location until the 1970s. It has undergone extensive renovations since then including deepened sand traps and a new irrigation system. The water features on Riviera's second, ninth and 15th holes were also dramatically reshaped to provide a greater challenge.
