Apple Valley Golf Club
About
Situated in Knox County's rolling hills, Apple Valley Golf Club has an idyllic, undulating terrain covered with lush forests. The club is proud of the fact that the course's designers, William Newcomb and John Robinson, were successful in seamlessly blending the course with the natural surroundings and preserving the beauty of the landscape. Long hitters will like this lengthy layout but there are challenges that will appeal to a variety of skill levels. The golf course features a number of holes that require a tricky tee shot through narrow tunnels of trees. There are several ponds located throughout that come into play on half of the holes. Many of the greens are also well protected by sand bunkers. Due to its popularity and versatility, Apple Valley Golf Club hosted a number of championships since opening in 1972, making a name for itself as a competition course.

Length and greens
Played the course on my way to Columbus from Cleveland. It is a bit off the beaten path - you drive for quite a while after leaving I71. From the forward tees I think the challenge of the course is primarily in its length. There are few hazards - no water, lateral hazards or many bunkers. The fairways are rolling and the greens are in good shape and reasonably quick.
I don't think the course is tricky and believe that you could score well if familiar with it.
This course was perfect!
I played this course yesterday with my father in-law. The course was in great shape other than on the par 3s there were a lot of divots on the green and tee blocks. Other than that I love this course and I will be back!!!!
good pace
weather couldn't have been better .course in great shape.. pace of play was excellent. played here 30 years ago ---the trees are bigger . would recommend this course
Worth the Drive
My friends and I are going to Apple Valley for a golf weekend this summer and this was a pre-event round. We had a very nice time except for a little rain in the middle of our round. This course is a good value for the money and worth the drive from Columbus.
best course i the area
this golf course has always been a great place to place scenic and challenging
Great condition!
I haven't played a better conditioned course in quite sometime. I remember playing Apple Valley in High School and loved it then. There has been a lot of rain in Ohio lately, if you can believe that, ha!! With all the rain, the course was plush and green. The greens were cut short and rolled very true. Very impressed with this hidden gem and if you haven't played Apple Valley, do yourself a favor and get up there!!! Great Course!!
Beautiful course....wrong day
Course was in great shape but the only downfall was that for mid day it was extremely booked and backed up. There were a couple groups that had the complete course backed up.
Only disappointment
We have used GolfNow many times in the past few years. But, we were charged a fee even though we used our email address and password.
excellent value
I really enjoy the whole package....course conditions, friendly staff, and pace of play...I'm from out of state and when I visit my daughter, I'll make this my first option to play...if time permits there are a few nice courses in the area as well, but as I stated earlier...here first...
Great egg salad sandwich also
Beautiful day on great course. As a twosome we played in just over three hours. Great value and great greens.
Outstanding!
What a gem! Final round of a 7 man golf trip with handicaps ranging from 16-39. Course was fun, playable, goregous and exceptionally maintained. A perfect ending to our trip. We will be back.
Outstanding property with some of the best greens I've ever played. Staff were friendly and accommodating and food and beverage good. If you get an opportunity to play here, do it.
Avoid this course unless you have 6 hours
We had an 1104 tee time on Sunday 6/1/14 and we quit after 9 holes and 2 hrs and 55 minutes. It was brutal. We were almost hit with balls twice. At one point there was 6 carts deep on a par 3. The course would be nice but there wasn't a ranger in sight. We called in twice and nothing happened. We drove 90 minutes to play there as I had heard good things but ill never go back. It was way overbooked and horrible customer service.
Best Kept Secret In Central OH
Absolutely wonderful golf experience! The course was beautiful! The staff was very pleasant. They need to work out package deals to get players from the bigger cities. This would be a great place to spend a weekend relaxing and golfing of we could stay in the close by timeshares. And there is a lake nearby. Looking forward to bringing my wife and other couples.
Beautiful course !!!
Well Maintained. Fast greens. Excellent condition.
A beautiful, well conditioned resort style course
I played here over 20 years ago, and the course has grown in quite nicely. Most greens are raised, like Ross courses, and are fast. A few un-fixed hallmarks, to be expected on a public play course.
Staff was very friendly, and soft drinks are very reasonably priced. Pace was over 4hours, due to 3 guys playing from the Blues, when the Whites would have been plenty for them.
As usual, got a tremendous hot deal rate from golfnow. We will definitely be back this year. This is a 5 star course
Longer when wet
Anyone who has played this course knows that it plays long. It's rained quite a bit lately so the everything was on the damp side--which meant no roll in the fairways. Still they were welll mowed and in excellent condition. Furthermore, the greens were lightning fast. They are, no doubt, scary fast when they are dry. The staff also was super friendly. This is a place that is well worth a return visit. Even if you're a short hitter, just consider you will get more swings for your dollar! I highly recommend this course to anyone.
Test your game here.
Apple Valley is an excellent place to examine your golf game. The golf course is more than happy to give you a difficult but fair test of all facets of your game. The first tee is elevated and your first shot is down into a slight dogleg left. Don't even think about walking to the back tees unless your USGA index is 0 to 5. The blue tees are more than enough golf course for anyone. Just sayin'.
There are constant changes in elevation as you play the course. Even the holes that seem flat and level are sloped one way or the other. The greens are large with subtle breaks that are difficult to read. They are really quick but also reward you, if you manage to roll your ball on the right line, with holed putts.
If the wind is blowing some of the par 4's become par 5's! The par 3 holes are long and the wind can change club selection as much as 3 clubs from the tee.
The fairways are as lovely as the rough is ugly! If the rough is long, so will be your day if you stray from the fairway! Did I mention the bunkers? A generous supply of them guarding the fairways and greens. The sand is a nice texture and gives you a chance for a good recovery shot should you find yourself in one.
Many Ohio Public Links Championship tournaments have been held here with good reason, while at the same time remaining a challenging , fun course to play for the general public. Add a friendly and informed staff, very reasonable greens fees and a really good snack bar and you have...........Apple Valley! Remember!
Black tees = Long day = Maybe not for you!
