The Trout Club
About
The Trout Club (formerly known as Licking Springs Golf Club) sprawls across a scenic landscape of rolling hills dotted with natural springs that is also home to an abundance of wildlife. Jack Kidwell, a local course architect who has played in role in many of Ohio's golf courses, designed the challenging layout. The course has a traditional design covered with mature trees, which are especially concentrated along the fairways. The undulating greens provide excellent putting surfaces. Their small size and quick speed will test your short game skills. The course is definitely a shotmaker's layout, placing a heavier emphasis on the placement off of the tee rather than distance. It is a layout that requires careful course management and skillful strategy. In addition to the golf course, The Trout Club offers two practice putting and chipping greens as well as a public swimming pool.

Worth what we paid, but nothing more
We caught a hot deal on this course that I thought was fantastic at the time of booking it, about $22 a person for 18 with a cart. I had heard about this course a lot over the past few years and it was held to high esteem from what I had heard. However I was disappointed to find out the fairways are just glorified rough, and the back 9 holes are a hilly mess. Basically every hole on the back is a blind shot, so hit it straight and hope it ends up fine. I wouldn’t recommend this course to someone who appreciates attention to detail or a more competitive style of course.
Tough golf course
This was a tough golf course to figure out. There were many greens that had a lot of movement to them. Some almost impossible to get close. For the money it was a fun course to play.
Beautiful views
This course has the best views of any course within an hour of DT Columbus. Great deal on golf now too. Some spots were being worked on but you can expert that with fall golf. Most of the beautiful course was in great condition
Hit hard by fall weather
On of my favorite courses in LC however fall has taken a toll on the course. Fairways have dead grass and greens are still recovering from aerating. Such a great layout. Will play again in the spring-
Lots of crabgrass but greens are good
Course has potential but there is crabgrass everywhere’s. The second tee has more crabgrass than grass and so does a lot of the course. They’ve taken care of the greens but that’s about it. It’s rained a lot in the area so I’ll give the long grass in the fairways a pass for now. I live closer to this course than others but it’s in the same or worse shape most of the time. I only play here about once a year when my regular course has an outing. Every time I remember why I only play here once a year there’s always lots of room for improvement.
Great course
Great course. Greens were tough to play due to the variation on reads. Only downfall was the construction on 17-18. Everything else was really nice and a great setting.
Better than expected
Fairways were actually cut a little shorter. They are usually longer than average. 2 or 3 greens had large brown spots that looked dug out.
Great time
Beautiful setting. Love the layout. Lonnie in the clubhouse is fantastic.
Raindrops over the trout club
Had a great day in Newark at the Trout Club with my step-Bro-n-law. We attempted to beat the rain which was predicted. Only got to the 8th and it cut loose. We really needed the rain, just not while we were playing. We waited it out and continued on a great day at the trout club. This course is demanding and requires some thought of attack. Always enjoyable especially with a huge GULFPASS discount. Everything is in great shape and the staff is very appreciative of the patrons…
