The Trout Club
About
The Trout Club (formerly known as Licking Springs Golf Club) sprawls across a scenic landscape of rolling hills dotted with natural springs that is also home to an abundance of wildlife. Jack Kidwell, a local course architect who has played in role in many of Ohio's golf courses, designed the challenging layout. The course has a traditional design covered with mature trees, which are especially concentrated along the fairways. The undulating greens provide excellent putting surfaces. Their small size and quick speed will test your short game skills. The course is definitely a shotmaker's layout, placing a heavier emphasis on the placement off of the tee rather than distance. It is a layout that requires careful course management and skillful strategy. In addition to the golf course, The Trout Club offers two practice putting and chipping greens as well as a public swimming pool.

Beautiful
Course is beautiful for the money. The greens are in good shape but extremely challenging making it very hard to score low. The rest of the course is fun and in great shape. Cool spot!
Greens Ruin an Otherwise Great Course
The course was made artificially more difficult by having half the greens near unplayable with how extreme the slope and speed on the greens was. Yeah, you need to plan your shot to putt up, but even on 2 cases, you putt up to the hole, the ball stops then rolls back down 10 feet.
Other than that huge aggravation the course itself is very well made. Unique hole sets, well taken care.
Oh, other little issues. Too close of tee times and the tee boxes were oddly not level on many holes. Would take a good 15 seconds just to find an area around the box that was flat
Short, tree-lined course with sloping, fast greens
I played this course on a 92°F day, but was highly protected by shade on almost every hole.
The good: fun little track with enough variability to keep you focused. Nothing overly special, but in very playable shape. Your short game needs to be on to score here. The greens are no joke. Lots of mature trees keep the wind at bay, so most shots aren't bothered. The pace of play was decent, but I never saw a range monitoring, so it was just luck I guess.
The not so good: the cart paths do not connect throughout, so finding the next hole can be a challenge at times. The greens are super slick. I had a putt from about 40 feet I had to aim 20 feet left on. The putt never slowed and ran past 20 feet. That put was side hill. The course is quite short, so you're not hitting driver a lot. 6000 yds from the tips. The greens make up for the length. Carts here are very slow except when going downhill. Hold on tight! Lots of blind shots. Course length won't have you reaching for many different clubs. No beverage/snack cart on a Saturday?
Very nice layout
The layout of the course is very nice. Greens are pretty much all flat and roll true. Tee boxes are well maintained and manicured. Cart paths are mostly just around the tee boxes and greens so you are driving in the fairways for most of the time. Lots of elevation changes and blind shots make it a bit more challenging, but also make it difficult to see where the group in front of you is at. Pace of play was excellent, very rarely had to wait on players in front of me. I would play here again.
Excellent course
Best golf course I've been at in awhile! Layout is a little weird and confusing since it was my first time there but over all excellent course! Will return!
Great course with better scenery.
First time playing the course. It was a great test, not too long.
Layout was very good. One hole was under construction. No Beverage cart on a Hot day-would have made it even better desired.
Will tell others about this course.
Excellent value!
This course will challenge you, but it is a fun course in excellent condition except for #17, which is a temporary green due to some construction. (The whole hole is temporarily an easy par 3 instead of a challenging par 4)
Hilly!
This is an excellent course, with many challenging hills. You definitely need a cart here. Very pretty course with excellent tees and greens. The greens are challenging as there are no flat greens. The fairways are in good condition also. Staff was friendly, and the value of a GolfNow discount is a great bargain. The only drawback we saw was the very high prices and small selection on food and drinks in the proshop. (Restaurant doesn't open until late afternoon) Also currently #17 hole is not in play. In place of the par 4, they have an easy par 3 set up as they are working near the original #17.
