Great deal, but course needs managed.
Excellent deal and will play again, but pace of play was an issue. Also greens were way too slow, and had too many spike and ball marks all over. Seems like course is overplayed with lack of upkeep to make it enjoyable. Same old golf course story, sell to everyone but don't put money into keeping it pristine and enjoyable.
Good value
For less than $15 for 9 holes and a cart, it is a definite value. Pace of play can be slow at times, due to the course being "beginner friendly." It is important to have good awareness while playing this course.... Balls will come out of the sky from anywhere. Don't let that stop you from getting a good deal on a pretty good course.
Seemed like a good course, however it was really wet.
I liked the course, but wished that the course was dry. The course was absolutely soaked as it had rained all day. The course seemed quite nice though in spite of the conditions.
Decent Value
For a public course that tends to get a lot of play, Shamrock is in surprisingly good condition. The holes are tightly bunched together, so keep your head on a swivel for flying balls. It's not a very long course so it is a good course for beginners. With that said, pace of play tends to be rather slow because there are more novice golfers playing. The Pro Shop definitely seems to be better stocked than years past.
Fun course
The vaule for the money isn't worth it. Typically is costs $41.00 for 18 on the weekend and although I enjoy this course that price is too steep for the overall course and conditions. Overall it is a nice couse but low to mid 30's would be more fair on the price.
Disappointing
I purchased a tee time on Golf Now and everything was fine when I checked in at the course. We were scheduled to tee off around 2:20 and it was a little backed up so we probably teed off at about 2:30. We were finished with 9 around 4:40 and when we went to make the turn there were carts lined up at the first and tenth tee boxes. When we asked the worker what was going on he was shocked that we had not made the turn yet. He then told us that the golf leagues have started and that we couldn't finish our round. He said we should have been finished with the first 9 before 4:30 which was not possible as we were waiting for every shot and allowed another guy to play with us. The worker also acted like we should not have used Golfnow because of the tee time that was posted even though Shamrock is obviously affiliated with this website. They did give us a nine hole rain check but the whole situation was ridiculous. Why wouldn't they tell us before we teed off that we could only play nine? They are obviously very unorganized and I do not recommend this course due to their poor customer service. We would have played elsewhere if we knew we could only play nine holes. It was also frustrating that they refused to accept responsibility for this mess and instead blamed golfnow. I understand that they have to be loyal to their leagues but the bottom line is that they should have either not offered a 2:20 teetime or let us know that we could only play nine holes as a simple courtesy so we could go elsewhere. With so many courses in the Columbus area I will not spend my money again at this one.
The course held up well under the amount of water we have received.
I was pleasantly surprised by the course conditions, specifically the ability to shed the amount of water we have experienced recently. The fairways were fine to play and the greens while soft were very puttable. Now if only people would fix thier ball marks....
Great Staff and an encouraging round of golf
Great course to score well! Builds momentum and confidence in your game. Short in length, but greens can be difficult with pin placements.
Close to to Powell which makes it convient.
The traps need a lot of work. Very little sand in most traps. Only a few in good shape.
Very pleased
Shamrock was a nice course that was fair for the money I spent. Overall the course was in good condition. A couple tees need some attending to and a few patches on some greens. The fairways where good and the rough was short. This course is very congested with holes being so close together. You will hear FORE a lot but don't let that keep you from playing it. The staff was great but didn't see and rangers on the course. They had plenty of people there to do that. If I'm in Columbus again I would have no problems playing this course again.
Friendly staff, timely service and well-maintained course. I'll be back!
I was impressed by the friendly staff and well-maintained, "open" course. It isn't perfect but does represent an excellent value. One suggestion: trim some of the shorter trees that hang over the cart path. I enjoyed a needless shower from several that are hanging into the cart path. The greens were in generally good condition. Overall, Shamrock represents an excellent value with very friendly service. I'll definitely be back!
Short course with some easy holes for a stress free round
Good chance to work on the short game at this course. Greens are a little slow but overall it makes for a relaxing round because you have a chance to score and make some birds. Be careful and keep an eye out for those playing (or hacking) around you.
Nice and convenient
Caters well to those in North Columbus area. Its a nice course, always maintained well, can be a little slow at times but not bad
Good condition this year
ONly played twice before, but course is in great condition this year. with golf now deals, it is a great deal when under $30
Low score course
Shamrock is a course where a mid-handicap player will often shoot below his average. We had a fast three hour round on an extremely cold windy day. Best hole is eight which requires a lay-up on the drive but invites you to have a shot at the carry. Less impressive are the back to back par threes 13 and 14. Like most courses these days the sand traps are sand in name only, but the rough was punitive, and the trees were prone to knocking down misdirected golf balls. So, if you like to play quickly, and score low,
Shamrock might be your cup of tea. Big hitters really distain it.
IT was a great day
When you play as bad as I did, it is nice to be able to enjoy the actual golf coarse. The traps need some work, but it was a beautiful day, the staff was friendly.... Golfnow.com gave me a great deal. I got right on and joint a couple other great guys and had a great afternoon. Played from the Blue tees, and that made it a little tougher on me, but still, very pretty coarse!!
The pace was extremely slow, I probably will not be going back for a while.
the pace was extremely slow. The ranger should have stepped in at some point and got the game moving, it was really 2 foursomes that were making it as slow as it was. At times there were 3 4somes waiting on the tee box. I've golfed at shamrock several times and have never had the experience.
BICE DAY TO PLAY
TOO MUCH LONG DEAD GRASS IN ROUGH FIRST CUT ROUGH WAS TOO LONG AND SAND TRAPS WERE FLOODED. GREENS IN GOOD SHAPE.
Not bad, but overpriced
Course is fairly well maintained, though a bit risky with parallel fairways. Also, balls from the driving range land on the ninth fairway a lot and on the fifth green and sixth tee. We used to play there regularly when they had a "points system" where you earned merchandise, but now it's just too expensive. They eliminated early bird pricing also.
Fun course for the value...watch out for errant balls though
Good course...fairly straight forward with most of the difficulty on the green surfaces...the holes aren't to long or plagued with trouble, but the greens have contour and plenty of speed in the wrong spots.
Fun place to play and enjoy a walk friendly course
